Amanda Seyfried and Evan Rachel Wood Developing a THELMA & LOUISE Musical Adaptation

Oscar-nominee and recent Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Amanda Seyfried (Mank, Mean Girls, Les Miserables) was not in attendance at last week’s Golden Globes Award show. Though she took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, for her role in The Dropout, the actress was not in attendance, and viewers were told it was because she was “deep in the process of creating a new musical.”

Now it is being reported that Seyfried is teaming up with Emmy-nominated actress Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen, Westworld, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story) to develop a musical adaptation of the 1991 cult classic Thelma & Louise, which starred Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis and took home the Oscar for best original screenplay.

The musical project has been in the works since at least 2021 with the original film’s screenwriter, Callie Khouri, attached and writing the book with Haley Feiffer, as well as indie singer/songwriter Neko Case creating the score. Scott Delman serves as the producer. Reports in 2021 noted that theater director Trip Cullman (Six Degrees of Separation) was also on board to helm the musical adaptation.

This sounds interesting. I wouldn’t have been that interested in it without these two actresses involved, as well as the original writer and musical talent involved. I think this has the potential to be good. We will let you know more as the project moves forward.
