Amanda Seyfried Is Theranos Founder Elizabeth Holmes in Trailer for Hulu's THE DROPOUT
Hulu has released the first trailer for its upcoming limited series The Dropout. The series stars Amanda Seyfried, who is playing Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes.
The series tells the story of Holmes, the enigmatic Stanford dropout who founded medical testing start-up Theranos. She was leading the charge on a new invention that promised to revolutionize blood testing. She became the world's youngest self-made billionaire, heralded as the next Steve Jobs. Then, just two years later, her multibillion-dollar company was dissolved when it was revealed that none of the tech actually worked, putting thousands of people’s health in grave danger.
The synopsis for the series reads, “Money. Romance. Tragedy. Deception. Hulu’s limited series “The Dropout,” the story of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos, is an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong. How did the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye?”
The series looks great, and it also stars Naveen Andrews as Sunny Balwani, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Kate Burton, Michel Gill, LisaGay Hamilton, William H. Macy, Elizabeth Marvel, Laurie Metcalf, Dylan Minnette, Alan Ruck, Sam Waterston, Michaela Watkins and more.
The series is executive produced by showrunner Elizabeth Meriwether, Liz Heldens, Liz Hannah, Katherine Pope, Rebecca Jarvis, Victoria Thompson, and Taylor Dunn. Michael Showalter directs multiple episodes and also serves as an executive producer along with his Semi-Formal Productions producing partner Jordana Mollick.
This is a fascinating story, and there’s an HBO documentary titled The Inventor that you should watch that tells this fascinating story in detail. Holmes ended up being indicted by a federal jury in 2018, along with former Theranos chief operating officer, on nine counts of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
The Dropout is set to premiere on March 3rd, 2022.
