Amazon Announces The Cast of THE LORD OF THE RINGS Series
Amazon has officially announced the full main cast of its upcoming The Lord of the Rings series. That cast includes Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman.
Production on the highly-anticipated series will begin in February and series showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay had this to say in a statement:
“After undertaking an extensive global search, we are delighted finally to reveal the first group of brilliant performers who will take part in Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series. These exceptionally talented women and men are more than just our actors: they are the newest members of an ever-expanding creative family that is now working tirelessly to bring Middle-earth to life anew for fans and audiences worldwide.”
No information has been revealed on the characters that these actors will be playing and there are no details on the story. We do know that the series will explore new storylines preceding J.R.R. Tolkien’s book The Fellowship of the Ring, and Amazon has committed to five seasons of the series, and they will spend over a billion dollars bringing the story to life.
The show’s official Twitter account sent out an image of a map teasing the setting along with two messages: “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie,” as well as “Welcome to the Second Age.”
In the Tolkien mythology, the Second Age was the time in which the Rings of Power, including Sauron’s One Ring, came into existence. It was also teased that the film could involve the island of Numenor. The series will be shot in New Zealand, and the studio also announced that they are already moving forward on Season 2.
Payne and McKay are developing the series along with Game of Thrones alum Bryan Cogman who will serve as a consulting producer. J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) is set to direct multiple episodes.
