Amazon Cancels J.K. Simmons and Sissy Spacek's Sci-Fi Drama NIGHT SKY
Amazon’s Prime Video has canceled its sci-fi drama series Night Sky after only one season. The series stars J.K. Simmons and Sissy Spacek, and it was a great show that was telling an interesting story! The series was met with positive reviews, and I’m actually kinda bummed out that Amazon canceled it. I would have loved to see how the story would continue.
The series spanned space and time, and the story follows Irene (Spacek) and Franklin (Simmons), “a couple who, years ago, discovered a chamber that leads inexplicably to a strange, deserted planet. They’ve carefully guarded their secret ever since, but when an enigmatic young man (Chai Hansen) enters their lives, the Yorks’ quiet existence quickly is upended — and the chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could have imagined.”
Prime Video, in conjunction with Amazon Web Services, SES, and Intelsat, beamed the show’s first episode into outer space, marking the farthest distance from the earth that a TV series has been distributed and making Prime Video the first streamer to distribute its content directly into space.
I guess the ratings and viewership numbers from outer space just didn’t cut it. Seriously, though, I’m disappointed that we won’t get to see the story continue.
The series was created and co-executive produced by Holden Miller, with Daniel C. Connolly serving as showrunner and executive producer.
