Amazon Casts The Gunslinger and The Man in Black in Their DARK TOWER Series Adaptation
Amazon is moving full steam ahead on their series adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, and they have just cast the two lead roles!
According to Variety, Sam Strike (Nightflyers, Mindhunter) has been cast in the role of Roland Deschain, a.k.a. The Gunslinger, and Jasper Pääkkönen (BlacKkKlansman, Vikings) has been cast as Randall Flagg, a.k.a. The Man in Black.
The report goes on to reveal that the the will tell the story of “how Roland became a gunslinger and his first encounter with the villainous Man in Black.”
It was previously said that the series will put the focus on “Roland Deschain, a young boy from a long line of ‘gunslingers’, and his ‘ka-tet’ comprised of Cuthbert Allgood, Alain Johns, Ileen Ritter and Jamie De Curry in addition to his girlfriend, Susan Delgado.”
It’s also explained that “Marten Broadcloak will serve as the series antagonist and his affair with Roland’s mother, Gabrielle, will factor heavily into the plot. Her affair incites Roland to pick up his guns in a search for Broadcloak and sets his father, Steven, on a mission to find him. At this time, no offers have been made to talent, but the cast should begin to assemble quickly.”
The show is being developed by Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead), Akiva Goldsman (Titans, Star Trek: Discovery) and Stephen King. They are still in the process of assembling their cast and are looking to start shooting in mid-April in Croatia, where the series is expected to film until late-June.
As a longtime fan of The Dark Tower series, I really hope that Amazon gets it right with this series. I like the casting for it so far! What do you think?
