Amazon Studios Developing TOMB RAIDER Series with Phoebe Waller-Bridge Writing and Producing

Amazon Studios and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are developing a series adaptation of the popular video game action-adventure franchise Tomb Raider. Waller-Bridge is attached to write and executive produce the series, but she has no plans to appear in the show.

Tomb Raider is the latest project in the works for Waller-Bridge at Amazon. The actress-writer-producer is also developing Sign Here, which is an adaptation of Claudia Lux’s book. Over there years there have been two film adaptations of Tomb Raider with Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

Tomb Raider is such a great video game franchise, and I’ve been a fan ever since the first game launched in the ‘90s on PlayStation. There are no story details to share regarding the new series, but we know for sure that it will revolve around Lara Croft and follow her on some crazy and dangerous treasure-hunting adventures.

The question is, will it start out with another origin story, or will it jump into a story where the character is already a seasoned treasure hunter? I’m hoping that it will be the latter. But, we’ll just have to wait and see!

The series will also be produced by Ryan Andolina and former head of overall deals Amanda Greenblatt. Andolina and Greenblatt launched their own production company and have a deal with Amazon. Dmitri Johnson will also exec produce via his DJ2 company.

Waller-Bride is a talented writer and I’m curious to see what she brings to the Tomb Raider franchise. She most recently worked with Harison Ford on Indiana Jones and Dial of Destiny, so I guess she wanted to keep the adventure going by developing a Tomb Raider series!
