Amazon is Developing a Series Based on The Classic Film A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
The classic 1992 Penny Marshall-directed film A League of Their Own is being adapted into a TV series by Amazon. I love this movie, and it seems like the kind of story that could actually work great as a TV series. But it sounds like the series is going to be very different from the film.
According to Variety, the series is said to be "not a close adaptation of the Penny Marshall movie starring Tom Hanks and Geena Davis, but rather a modern take on the story. It is not expected to feature characters from the original, but will follow a new version of the Rockford Peaches during the first season of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in 1943."
So even though the series will be a modern take on the story following a new version of the Rockford Peaches, it will still be set in 1943. It will certainly be interesting to see what the creative team is envisioning for this series.
A League of Their Own is being developed by writers Will Graham (Mozart in the Jungle) and Abbi Jacobson (Broad City), along with a team of writers. The series is described as being a comedy and each episode will be a half-hour long.
As a fan of the original film, I really do hope that this series turns out great!
