Amazon Studios is developing a new series that will center on the literary character Lisbeth Salander from Stieg Larsson’s Millenium books series. That series consists of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest.

The project is titled The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and it will not be “a sequel or continuation of the story from the books or the films into which they were adapted.” The series will instead take Salander and “place her in today’s world with a wholly new setting, new characters, and a new story.”

The project is in the early stages of development and as of right now there is no writer or actress attached to the show. But, Andy Harries, founder and CEO of Left Bank Pictures, will executive produce along with Rob Bullock. Amazon Studios will produce in association with Sony Pictures Television. Harries has previously produced shows such as Quiz, The Crown, Strike Back, and Outlander.

I’m a fan of the book series, including the novels written by David Lagercrantz who took over writing after Larsson passed away. His books include The Girl in the Spider’s Web, The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye, and The Girl Who Lived Twice. I’ve also enjoyed the movies that have been made.

Lisbeth Salander is such a great and fascinating character and I’m curious to see how this new series explores brings her to life and explores her.
