Amazon is Developing an EVENT HORIZON Series Adaption with Director Adam Wingard

The insane and twisted 1997 sci-fi horror film Event Horizon is getting a series adaptation thanks to Amazon Studios and Paramount Television. According to Variety, Adam Winger (The Guest, You’re Next, Godzilla Vs. Kong) will executive produce the series and direct the series.

The original film was directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and it’s the best film he’s made in his career. It starred Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neill and the story centered around a spaceship that “disappeared after testing an experimental gravity drive capable of creating an artificial black hole that was meant to allow the ship to travel to distant points in the galaxy. A rescue crew and the gravity drive’s inventor are sent to investigate after the ship mysteriously reappears, only to discover that the ship traveled to a hellish dimension outside of the known universe that infects the ship with a sinister sentience, leading to multiple deaths.”

The series will tell the same story, but there’s no information on how that story will be handled in series form. For the most part I like the films that Adam Winger has made and this seems like the perfect project for him to take on.

I hope that the series embraces the insane and disturbing madness of the story! I’ll be disappointed if the creative team tries to lighten things up. What do you think about Event Horizon being developed as a series for Amazon?
