Amazon Looking To Revive The POLTERGEIST Horror Film Franchise

It looks like Amazon Studios is looking to revive MGM’s classic horror franchise Poltergeist. This will be the second attempt to revive the property after the Gil Kenan-directed remake in 2015. While the remake has a great cast led by Sam Rockwell, it wasn’t that good of a movie, and it really didn’t do very well at the box office.

On a recent episode of The Hot Mic, co-hosted by John Rocha, entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider revealed the update and said that this is one of the many MGM properties that Amazon is looking to “prioritize.”

When it comes to Poltergeist, though, it’s explained that the situation is “complicated by the fact that Spielberg would likely need to be involved.” Steven Spielberg was a producer of the original film. I don’t know why Spielberg would need to be involved because he wasn’t really involved with the remake. The remake was based on his script for the original film, but he wasn’t a producer on it. Maybe he has to sign off on it.

Snieder went on to say, “All this stuff is so up in the air. [Amazon is] still figuring out, ‘What do we have here in MGM, what do we want to do with it, and how do we want to do it?'”

With how well horror movies are doing right now, it makes sense that Amazon would want to tap into that with a franchise like Poltergeist. But, there’s really no point if it’s not going to be better than the original, which was such a great and terrifying movie!

Would you want to see Amazon attempt to revive Poltergeist again?
