Amazon Studios Leading the Bidding War to Acquire Live-Action VOLTRON Film with Rawson Marshall Thurber Set to Direct
The bidding war is coming close to an end for the live-action Voltron movie that is in the works, and Amazon Studios is currently in the lead to acquiring the rights. Rawson Marshall Thurber, director of Dodgeball and Red Notice, is set to helm the film about the giant robot.
Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman are on board to produce with Bob Koplar. Ellen Shanman (Sports Tips with Chip, The In-Betweens of Holly Malone) is writing the script with Thurber.
Voltron is based on the Japanese sci-fi series that became the ’80s syndicated show Voltron: Defender of the Universe, which follows five young pilots in a battalion named the Robot Lions, which are vehicles that join together to form a mega robot known as Voltron. Together they fight against Emperor Zarkon, the cruel leader of the Galra Empire, who for over 10,000 years has been searching the universe for the Voltron lions.
