Amazon’s GOD OF WAR Series May Feature Nudity and Simulated Sex Scenes, According to New Casting Call
The God of War TV series may end up being one of the most anticipated video game adaptations in development, but some newly surfaced details suggest the show might be taking some unexpected creative liberties, and fans might not be thrilled about them.
A recent report hints that Amazon’s live-action adaptation could lean heavily into sex and nudity, bringing a Game of Thrones level of intensity to the world of Kratos.
According to leaker DanielRPK, a new casting call has surfaced that strongly points to being for the God of War series. While all the character names in the listing have been disguised for secrecy, it’s clear from context that it’s seeking actors for characters like Kratos, Atreus, Odin, Freya, and Baldur.
What really stands out in the casting details is a repeated requirement across several roles.
The descriptions for what seem to be Kratos, Freya, and Baldur all note that the actors must be comfortable with nudity, and for Freya and Baldur specifically, they also mention the possibility of simulated sex acts.
If this is legit, it could indicate that Amazon is steering the God of War series into more adult territory than fans might expect, possibly trying to emulate the gritty, mature tone of Game of Thrones with more explicit content than the games, especially the recent ones, have ever featured.
This creative direction would mark a noticeable departure from the modern God of War games. While the original trilogy was loaded with sexual content and even included mini-games where Kratos could have sex, the more recent entries (God of War 2018 and God of War: Ragnarök) pivoted toward a more grounded, emotionally driven narrative.
Characters like Freya and Baldur never engage in sexual acts on-screen, and their stories are told almost entirely from the perspective of Kratos and Atreus.
That said, this approach could also give the show freedom to explore stories outside the tight POV structure of the games. Scenes that were only implied or never shown could be brought to life on screen. Whether fans want that is another question entirely.
Another point of concern among longtime fans is the show’s decision to start with the Nordic era of the story, essentially skipping over Kratos’ entire Greek mythology arc.
While God of War 2018 was designed as a soft reboot, much of its emotional weight comes from the history Kratos carries with him. Some fans worry that new viewers might miss the depth of his journey without seeing what came before.
If the casting call is accurate, production on God of War is expected to begin in March 2026, which would line up with a 2027 premiere. Until then, take everything with a grain of salt, as nothing is officially confirmed, and things could still change as development moves forward.
Meanwhile, fans can look forward to what’s next in the God of War video game series as well. A new game is reportedly in development and could finally take Kratos to Egypt, a setting that was once considered before the series settled into Norse mythology.
