Amazon's THE LORD OF THE RINGS Series May Include Nudity and Sex Scenes

It looks like there’s a chance that Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings-inspired series will be going the Game of Thrones route with the inclusion of nudity and sex. A casting call has recently gone out looking for various actors that are "comfortable with nudity."

The casting call comes from the BGT talent agency and it was picked up by Lord of the Rings fansite TheOneRing.net. The casting call reads:

"Comfortable with Nudity? Up to $500 per day. Use reference NUDE. We need Nude people based in Auckland - age 18 plus, all shapes and sizes (Intimacy guidelines will always be followed on set)."

The series production also has an intimacy coordinator on its team, which suggests that the series could very well include sex scenes. That’s what intimacy coordinators are for on these projects. Who knows, though. Maybe these will be PG-13 style nude and sex scenes.

J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth and the stories set there are incredible. I grew up with these stories, a lot of people have grown up with them, these are stories that kids can enjoy. The world of Middle Earth is definitely more pure and chaste. They don’t really need to be Game of Thronesified. It’s hard to believe that the Tolkien Estate would be ok with that.

Game of Thrones alum Bryan Cogman is serving as a consulting producer on the show, and J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) is set to direct multiple episodes. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are leading the charge on the project.

The cast of the series includes Robert Aramayo, Maxim Baldry, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman.

The series will be set in the Second Age, which is about 3,000 years of history between the series and the beginning of The Lord of the Rings. Amazon has committed to five seasons of the series, and they will spend over a billion dollars bringing the story to life.

The show’s official Twitter account previously shared an image of a map teasing the setting along with two messages: “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie,” as well as, “Welcome to the Second Age.”

In the Tolkien mythology, the Second Age was the time in which the Rings of Power, including Sauron’s One Ring, came into existence. It was also teased that the film could involve the island of Numenor. The series will be shot in New Zealand, and the studio also announced that they are already moving forward on Season 2.

The Lord of the Rings series is produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. It’s expected to debut in 2021.
