Amber Heard Is Campaigning for a Wonder Woman/Mera Team Up

Amber Heard has floated the idea of an Aquaman spinoff, and I am here for it. Heard plays Xebellian princess and Aquaman ally Mera in the upcoming Aquaman, and she told The Hollywood Reporter she would love to team up with Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman in a future film.

“I would really love to team up with Wonder Woman. That would be a kickass duo right there. But I’m vying for a spinoff, right? You heard it here... Mera and Wonder Woman spinoff. Go for it, Warner Bros.”

I haven't seen Aquaman yet, but I have heard nothing but good things about it. I’m told it has a real sense of fun and adventure, and Heard apparently kicks some major ass as Mera, which would make her a good match for the Amazonian warrior. Plus, while Aquaman hasn’t opened in the States yet, it premiered in China over the weekend and gave Warner Bros. both its biggest ever opening day box office and its biggest ever opening weekend box office in the country, pulling in $94 million.

Those numbers mean that WB is going to be looking to expand the franchise, and a female-led team up movie may not be out of the question, especially if Birds of Prey does well and if Mera proves popular among fans. Heard talked about what drew her to the character despite her initial reluctance:

"I remember the first scene I read in this comic.

“Mera, my character, and her male counterpart Aquaman, played by Jason Momoa, they are in the comic book version they’ve just saved the town from some aquatic disaster, hurricane or something to that effect, and as the townspeople and civilians are picking up pieces of their life they look and say, ’It’s Aquaman!’ They look to Mera and they’re like, ‘Who are you? Is that Aquawoman?’

“And she stops what she’s doing and she says, ‘I have my own name. I’m not Aquawoman. I have my own name. My name is Mera.’ And I was like, [snaps], ’I can get behind that woman.’”

She definitely sounds like a character who could hold her own in a partnership with the Amazing Amazon. Would you watch that movie?
