Amblin is Remaking ARACHNOPHOBIA with HAPPY DEATH DAY Director Christopher Landon

Amblin Partners is developing a remake of the classic 1990 horror film Arachnophobia, and they’ve hired Christopher Landon (Freaky, Happy Death Day, and Happy Death Day 2U) to write and direct the film.

When I was a kid I had a crazy fear of spiders, so this movie scared the shit out of me. It was like all of my worst nightmares! The movie was directed by Frank Marshall and starred Jeff Daniels, and it followed a species of South American killer spiders who end up hitching a ride to the U.S. in a coffin. They start to breed and terrorize a small California community killing lots of people. John Goodman also had a great role in the film as a badass exterminator. I loved that character.

I assume the remake will tell a similar story. James Wan and Michael Clear will produce the remake for Atomic Monster, alongside Amblin, with Marshall serving as exec producer.

Landon’s movies have been a lot of fun to watch, and I can see his filmmaking style being a great fit for this Arachnophobia remake. If you haven’t seen the original film, you should check it out! It’s a lot of fun but also insanely terrifying for anyone who has a fear of spiders!
