AMC Theatres Has Launched Its Own On Demand Movie Service for Rentals and Purchase

AMC Entertainment is embarking on a new service for customers that will fill an interesting need. The company has created an online video store of sorts that will serve US residents, wherein customers can rent films fresh out of the theater, similarly to Redbox, but straight to your TV, and sooner. Adam Aron, AMC’s president and chief executive, said “AMC Theatres On Demand will offer about 2,000 films for sale or rent after their theatrical runs — much like Amazon or iTunes.”

The service has made deals with the big moviemaking companies of Disney, Warner Bros., Universal, Sony and Paramount, who have agreed to make past and future films available on the service. Prices range between three and six dollars for rentals, and ten to twenty dollars to buy a movie. There are no subscriptions necessary, and you can earn and use your AMC Stubs points while using the service, which works on your TV and on your devices.

I just checked out the site, and it is exciting! It already features Hobbs & Shaw and The Lion King, which are not available on most outlets yet. This is a game changer for people who can’t get out of the house for a myriad of reasons, health related, childcare related, anxiety or price related. It will be like going to the video store again! I’m pretty stoked for this, and I see it making a good business.

Will you use this new movie service? It is available now, and you can check it out here.
