AMC to Develop PREACHER TV Series

TV Preacher by Joey Paur

A feature film adaptation of the comic book Preacher has been in film development for awhile. Kevin SmithDJ Caruso, and Sam Mendes were all attached to direct the film at some point. Producers have been trying to get this to the big screen since 1998. After all this time it looks like we might see it as a TV series before a movie.

According to Badass Digest, AMC has ordered a pilot based on the classic Vertigo comic. This is the network that has given us The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and Mad Men. So chances are if they actually end up doing this, it's going to turn out to be a solid series.

Preacher was created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, and it tells the story of Texas reverend Jesse Custer who, after merging with the escaped offspring of a demon and an angel, finds himself imbued with the word of God, the power to command anyone to do his bidding. Teamed with his ex girlfriend, Tulip O'Hare, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, Custer sets out across America to track down the almighty and force him to explain why he abandoned creation.

I think this really could be a great series. It might make for a better TV series than a movie.
