AMC has cast Sam Reid (Belle, The Newsreader, The Lighthouse Gollum) in the lead role of Lestat in its upcoming Interview With The Vampire series. This is the role that Tom Cruise played in the original 1994 film. I’m not really that familiar with Reid, but it seems like he will fit the part.

AMC is looking to build a multiple-show universe around Anne Rice’s novels and Interview With the Vampire will launch it. The story centers on the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac as he relates the story of his life to a reporter, in particular how he was turned into a vampire and then mentored by Lestat de Lioncourt.

The network ordered an eight-episode first season, and they plan to launch the series in 2022. Rolin Jones (Perry Mason) will serve as showrunner on the series. AMC veteran Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad, Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul/El Camino, Halt and Catch Fire and Rectify) will also executive produce alongside Jones. Johnson will also oversee the Vampire franchise.

With AMC looking to build a Vampire universe, Reid could also find himself portraying the character across multiple series.
