AMERICAN HISTORY X Director Tony Kaye Is Teaming Up with Djimon Hounsou for AFRICAN HISTORY Y
The director of the incredible and powerful film American History X, Tony Kaye, has a new project in development titled African History Y. He has also cast Djimon Hounsou in the lead role.
The plot details for the film have yet to be revealed. All we know as of now is that it will tell a “story of tragedy and redemption.” Kaye is also writing the script with Charles Chanchori and Jason Corder.
Kaye said in a statement:
“Djimon and I met just after I did American History X. It was a cathartic meeting, and I knew immediately that he was an actor that I had to work with. The material had to be right, and thank God, now we have a project to work together on. The color cameras inside my head are ready to go to work in Africa.”
Hounsou added:
“African History Y could not have come at a better time as I explore bringing more extraordinary African stories to the world. I’m excited to be working with Tony, and it’s somewhat pre-ordained that he and I have come full circle to work with each other.”
His 1998 film American History X starred Edward Norton as a former neo-Nazi skinhead who tries to prevent his younger brother from going down the same wrong path that he did. Kaye is actually not a fan of the film and has disowned it, calling it a “total abuse of creativity.” In case you didn’t know, during the production, the director clashed with Norton and New Line Cinema on the film. He even tried to have his name removed from the credits of the film, but was denied by the DGA.
Regardless, lots of people praise the film that was ultimately released. Hopefully, this new project is a better experience for him.
