AMERICAN HISTORY X Director Tony Kaye To Helm Civil Right Drama CIVIL
Tony Kaye, the director of the powerful 1998 film American History X, is set to helm a civil rights drama titled Civil. The movie is being written by Austin Wright and Adam Knox.
The story follows “two young men from opposite sides of the racial divide in the months leading up to the movement in 1955, who discover the real meaning of equality, through the ashes of tragedy.”
There’s not much else known about the story other than that. But, Kaye is an incredibly talented filmmaker and storyteller, and I have no doubt that this next film of his will tell a powerful, moving, and meaningful tale.
Kale actually got his start directing music videos, which include Soul Asylum’s “Runaway Train”, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Dani California”, Roger Waters’ “What God Wants” and “Help Me” as well as Johnny Cash’s “God’s Gonna Cut You Down”.
His other film credits include the 2006 abortion debate documentary Lake of Fire and the 2011 film Detachment starring Adrien Brody, Marcia Gay Harden, James Caan, Lucy Liu, and Bryan Cranston.
