AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season 8 Will Be a Sci-Fi Themed Story Set in the Future

American Horror Story Season 8 is going to shake things up again and give us something we haven't seen with the anthology series yet. It will be a sci-fi themed season and it will be set in the future.

The last couple seasons haven't really grabbed me in the way the series did in it's earlier seasons, but I hope this new direction will change that and get me excited for the show again.

Murphy wouldn't reveal any details about the story, or what type of future that the story will be set in. The Black Mirror-type future is popular these days, the noir-style dystopian future is always fun, a retro-themed future could work, then there's the whole full-on fantasy type future setting. In regards to the setting, all Murphy would say is:

“All I’ll say about it is I want to go to the future — still topical, but the future, which I’ve never done."

He also clarified that it will not be set in outer space, so you can take that off the table. He went not to talk about his pitch to FX, saying:

“I pitched it to [FX chief] John Landgraf today right after his TCA panel, and he loved it, but he’s asked me not to say what it is. I told him and he fell out of his chair with joy. I think people will like it, it’s different from what we’ve done before, but I always try and do the opposite of what I’ve done on that show.”

That's cool to hear and I really do hope that he ends up giving us something incredibly cool and different than anything we've seen. American Horror Story likes to go into some crazy, dark, and wacky places. So, I have no doubt that Murphy will deliver something unique.

I assume he will bring the usual suspects back to star in the series, sprinkled with a few new faces.

What's interesting is that he is farther along on developing American Horror Story Season 9, but they have to wait on that one because they are waiting for all the actors scheduled to open up. There are 25 actors wanted for the series, so the scheduling seems like it might be difficult. In regards to Season 9 Murphy said:

“We’re working on it, but it’s not going to be the next season. Next season is season 8, and it’ll probably be the one after that. We’ve already met about it and outlined it, but it won’t be the next one because some of the actors they want are not available.
“I want all of them. I want Dylan, and Connie and Jessica [Lange]. They’ve all said — Kathy Bates, too — everybody who is involved in the show has always said, ‘Yeah, that sounds like fun, let’s get the band back together again.’ So that is one of the reasons why the writing process of that season is taking longer because it’s literally 25 people’s schedules. But I’m hopeful they will all be back.”

It's been said that Season 9 will be a crossover between "Murder House" (season 1) and "Coven" (season 3). We'll just have to wait and see.

Are you excited about the upcoming two seasons of American Horror Story? What's your favorite season so far?
