Amy Schumer to Star in the Live-Action BARBIE Movie and We Have Plot Details

Comedian Amy Schumer (Trainwreck) will star in Sony Picture's live-action adaptation of Mattel's popular toy line Barbie. The studio announced the project back in 2014 and they are looking to put a contemporary spin on the property dealing with beauty, feminism, and identity.

Last year the studio hired three scribes to pen separate screenplays for the film, and they ended up taking the one written by Hilary Winston (My Name is Earl, Community). The film will be based on this script, and according to THR, Schumer will rewrite the script with her sister, Kim Caramele.

The film will "try to address those [themes] in a story that begins in a perfect land of Barbies where one woman slowly awakens to the fact that she doesn’t fit it. She is expelled from the idealistic land and journeys to the real world, where she discovers that being unique is an asset."

The hope is that the movie will offer audiences an "imaginative family comedy with plenty of heart," and it's said to be inspired by Tom Hanks' classic films such as Splash and Big, as well as Disney’s Enchanted.

This actually sounds a lot better than I was expecting from a Barbie movie. Plus I'm a fan of Schumer's style of comedy and humor, so I'm curious to see what she ends up doing with it. What do you all think?
