An Open World STAR WARS Game Is being Developed by Lucasfilm Games and Ubisoft

Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment has partnered up with Lucasfilm Games to develop an open-world Star Wars game! I have been waiting a long time for a game like this to get made, and it’s finally happening!

Wired reports that Julian Gerighty (The Division 2The Crew) is on board as creative director and it will utilize Massive Entertainment's Snowdrop engine. There are really no other details on the game, its story, or any characters that might be involved.

This announcement comes after yesterday’s news that Lucasfilm Games is partnering with Bethesda to create an Indiana Jones title, which is the first non-Star Wars AAA game out of Lucasfilm in years.

EA has been behind the development of most AAA Star Wars games such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars: Squadrons, but they are obviously looking to give other developers the opportunity to play in the Star Wars sandbox.

Sean Shoptaw, SVP of Global Games and Interactive Experiences at Disney said in a statement:

"EA has been and will continue to be a very strategic and important partner for us now and going forward. But we did feel like there's room for others."

Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, added:

"The Star Wars galaxy is an amazing source of motivation for our teams to innovate and push the boundaries of our medium. Building new worlds, characters and stories that will become lasting parts of the Star Wars lore is an incredible opportunity for us, and we are excited to have our Ubisoft Massive studio working closely with Lucasfilm Games to create an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before."

I’m excited to learn more about this open world Star Wars game and see what it ends up being. I especially can’t wait to play it!

What do you think about the new open-world Star Wars video game announcement? What would you like to see from it?
