ANDOR Creator Tony Gilroy Teases the Epic Scale of the Series and Reveals First Look Photo

Fans of the Star Wars franchise have had mixed feelings about each of the new properties that have been released since Disney+ started making their slate of shows set in the galaxy far, far away. What we know so far about the upcoming Andor series is that it’s expected to be a pretty large-scale undertaking. Whether this will contribute to winning fans over or not is yet to be seen, but it is intriguing.

In a recent interview with Empire, the show’s creator, Tony Gilroy, talked about the structure of the series, and how it is set to play out, saying:

“The scale of the show is so huge. Directors work in blocks of three episodes, so we did four blocks [in Season 1] of three episodes each. That shooting schedule organically led to Season 2’s different structure. We looked and said, ‘Wow, it’d be really interesting if we come back, and we use each block to represent a year. We’ll move a year closer with each block.’ From a narrative point of view, it’s really exciting to be able to work on something where you do a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and then jump a year.”

Luna is promising a more character-focused story this time around, saying:

Rogue One is more about an event than the actual journey of [the] characters. It’s quite amazing to start a show where it’s not about where we can end – it’s about, how did we end there?”

The 12-episode series starts streaming on Disney+ on August 31st. Are you looking forward to checking it out?
