Andrew Garfield Investigates a Horrific Murder in Dark Trailer For FX's UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN
FX has released a full trailer for the upcoming true crime murder investigation series Under the Banner of Heaven. The film stars Andrew Garfield as a detective who is investigating a horrific double murder in a small town. This is a dark and twisted story, but it looks like it will make for a gripping series.
The project is based on the 2003 nonfiction book of the same name from Jon Krakauer. The story focuses on “a double murder committed by Ron and Dan Lafferty, two brothers who killed their sister-in-law Brenda and niece Erica in 1984. The brothers were former members of the School of Prophets, a small fundamentalist Mormon group, and Ron claimed he received visions from God ordering him to commit the murders.”
The synopsis for the series reads: “A devout detective’s faith is tested as he investigates a brutal murder that seems to be connected to an esteemed Utah family’s spiral into LDS fundamentalism and their distrust in the government. Andrew Garfield will star as Pyre, an LDS elder who is committed to his Church and family but begins to question some of the Church's teachings through his contact with a suspected murderer.”
Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as Brenda, a young faithful Mormon who is the victim of a brutal murder. The trailer sees the detective examining the crime scene, mixed with scenes of certain Mormon ordinances, and life in the small Utah town where the murder took place.
Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J Edgar) wrote the series and Ron Howard and Brian Gazer are producing. Under the Banner of Heaven will premiere on FX and Hulu on April 28th. Watch the trailer and let us know what you think!
