Andrew Garfield Is Up for Returning to Play Spider-Man But He Would Like to Do Something "Very Weird"

Andrew Garfield played Spider-Man in his own Amazing Spider-Man films years ago,and was able to revisit the character in Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.

It was cool to see him alongside the MCU’s Peter Parker (Tom Holland), as well as Tobey Maguire, who started it all as the web-slinging superhero over 20 years ago in the trilogy that brought the character back to the modern zeitgeist.

Garfield’s Parker never did get his third film, and his tragic storyline was never really resolved, so it was good to see the character again and see him work through some of the heartbreak he had faced in his storyline. So if he returns, the slate is sort of wide open as to what his Peter Parker is up to after his interdimensional adventure.

Garfield is open to returning to the role, but he would like to try something different this time. The actor explained during the recent Middle East Film & Comic-Con (via ET) that he would love to play Spidey again, only in a new way:

“I really loved playing Spider-Man. I would love to play the character again in some capacity. But I think it would have to be very weird. I would want to do something very strange. I would want to do something very unique and offbeat, and surprising. Kind of like the creative freedom they have with the animated Spider-Verse movies. They’re so great, and you can honor the character in so many different ways through the multiverse.”

I don’t know if he will get this chance to play a “weird” or even different iteration of the character, but I do think he will return in the upcoming Avengers movies before the multiverse is closed for good. We will just have to wait and see how the MCU chooses to handle it.
