Andrew Garfield Says Spider-Man Is "Immaterial" to SINISTER SIX Movie

Cabin in the Woods co-writer and director Drew Goddard is hard at work developing the Sinister Six movie for Sony Pictures. The movie will bring together a team of villains who are going to put Spider-Man through even more hell than he's already been through. You'd think they'd feel a little bad for killing the love of his life, and that maybe he's already gone through enough, but nope.

Andrew Garfield is expected to return for at least one more movie… The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which comes out in 2018. But, I assumed he would have a place in the Sinister Six movie. After all, there needs to be some kind of hero in a movie full of villains, right?

While the actor was promoting his new movie 99 Homes, The Toronto Sun asked him about Spider-Man and the Sinister Six, and he gave an interesting answer:

"I know more than I’m allowed to say right now. I can say I’m really excited about Drew Goddard, who’s going to be writing and directing The Sinister Six movie. And whether I’m involved in that or not is kind of immaterial."

Immaterial? Really? It's Spider-Man, it's hard to believe that he may not be involved with this. I just don't see how Spider-Man is immaterial to a Sinister Six movie. I don't think there's a comic book storyline out there with the Sinister Six that doesn't include Spider-Man, so if this is the case maybe they are steering far away from the comics. The thing is, every good film needs a strong protagonist. If it's not Spider-Man, who could it be?

Now this quote could also be interpreted another way, as well. While talking to our other writers about it, they point out that the actor could just be saying that the movie is going to be a good film no matter what, and that he may just be referring to himself as an actor being unimportant to how the film as a whole turns out, which makes sense.
