Andrew Garfield To Star in Luca Guadagnino's Series Adaptation on BRIDESHEAD REVISITED

Call Me By Your Name and Suspiria director Luca Guadagnino is set to develop a miniseries adaptation of Brideshead Revisited for the BBC, with Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man) set to star.

The miniseries will be based on the 1945 novel of the same name by Evelyn Waugh, the story of which follows “the life and romances of Charles Ryder – particularly his relationship with the Flytes, a wealthy family who live in Brideshead Castle. It explores themes of aristocratic nostalgia, Catholicism and homosexuality.”

The Daily Mail reports that Garfield will take on the role of Charles Ryder, with Joe Alwyn as Sebastian Flyte and Rooney Mara as his sister Julia. Ralph Fiennes and Cate Blanchett are also reportedly in negotiations to play Lady and Lord Marchmain, Sebastian and Julia’s parents.

Brideshead Revisited was previously adapted back in 1981 as a TV series and it starred Justice League and Watchmen actor Jeremy Irons as Charles Ryder. There was also a film adaptation made in 2008, which featured Emma Thompson in the role of Lady Marchmain, and Watchmen movie actor Matthew Goode as Charles with James Bond’s Ben Whishaw as Sebastian.

Production on the new miniseries is set to begin in the spring of 2021. The series is being produced by Mammoth Screen and they are in talks with a number of US broadcasters, including HBO.
