Andy Serkis in Talks to Play Alfred Pennyworth in THE BATMAN

Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings, Black Panther, Planet of the Apes) is in talks to join director Matt ReevesThe Batman. If cast, he will take on the role of Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s trustworthy butler.

The casting isn’t 100% set in stone, but I can see Serkis in the role of Alfred. It’s not hard to imagine, and it makes sense that Reeves would want to find a role for him in this film as they have a strong working relationship with each other. They worked together on the Planet of the Apes films.

If cast, he will join Robert Pattinson as Batman, Paul Dano (Prisoners, Love & Mercy) as The Riddler, Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies, Divergent, X-Men) as Catwoman, and Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Commissioner James Gordon. Jonah Hill was previously up for the role of Penguin, but he ended up dropping out and is no longer involved.

The Batman will be a noir style film that will lean into Batman as a detective. It’s scheduled to hit theaters June 25th, 2021.

What do you think about Serkis possibly playing Alfred? If you don’t want him in the role, who else would you suggest?
