Andy Serkis Officially Set To Direct VENOM 2

Andy Serkis is officially set to direct Venom 2 for Sony Pictures and I wish the studio would’ve picked a better filmmaker. I wasn’t a fan of his Jungle Book Netflix film Mowgli. I know some people liked it, and that’s cool, I just thought it was a disappointing and poorly-made film.

Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and Rupert Wyatt (The Rise of the Planet of the Apes) were also in the running and either one of them would have been a far superior choice! There are also a ton of other directors that are more talented that the studio could have gone with before they settled on Serkis.

I thought the first Venom film directed by Ruben Fleischer was decent. It had some entertaining moments. I was hoping the sequel would get a great filmmaker that would tell a better story with the character, but I’m not expecting much from Serkis. The guy is a solid actor and he has a loyal fanbase for the motion capture work he has done. I just don’t think he’s a good director. Who knows, though, maybe he'll surprise me, and if he does… awesome!

Tom Hardy is set to reprise his role and while there are no details on the story for the sequel, we know Carnage will play a big role in it. Woody Harrelson was introduced as Cletus Kasady, who becomes Carnage in the first film.

What do you think about Serkis directing Venom 2? Do you think he’s got what it takes to deliver a great sequel or is there another director you would have liked to see land the job?
