Andy Serkis Says Bruce Wayne and Alfred "Live in Separate Worlds" in THE BATMAN
We are getting closer to the release of The Batman, director Matt Reeves’ new iteration of the classic comic story that follows the caped crusader through Gotham. We’ve seen a couple of great trailers, and have even gotten a few deep cut story details from the director, and stars of the film.
Regarding the character Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s butler and guardian-turned-confidant who is a mainstay across the Batman stories, Andy Serkis, who is playing Alfred, explained the state of his relationship with Bruce in this film. Telling Empire:
"Bruce is on this nihilistic journey, and they've pulled apart ... It's got to the point where they almost no longer talk. If they bump into each other in the corridor, it's a very icy and painful greeting. They almost live in separate worlds now."
The two have never really seemed to see eye to eye, as Alfred hopes that Bruce will be able to find peace and not lead such a dangerous life, and Bruce is so singularly focused, that he puts little stock into Alfred’s concerns. It will be interesting to see how the story plays out between these two.
The Batman is set to his theaters on March 4, 2022.
