Andy Serkis Says He Would Be Willing to Chop Off His Nose to Play Lord Voldemort in the HARRY POTTER Series

From a fan point of view, the biggest obstacle in creating the new Harry Potter series at HBO is getting the casting just right.

The stories have already been adapted into film, and the actors who played the characters in the movies were so good that it’s an intimidating task to remake the stories with new faces.

While most of the roles have been filled with promising actors, there is still one very important part to cast- the villainous Lord Voldemort.

Many actors have been rumored to be up for the role, including Cillian Murphy, who dispelled the rumors, Paul Bettany, who said no one has reached out to him about taking on the role, original Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes, who has confirmed he is not returning for the part, and Tilda Swinton, who has not commented on the possibility, but does have the backing of Fiennes.

But now another actor has thrown their hat in the ring- none other than the great Andy Serkis, who has transformed himself for many great roles, including Gollum in The Lord of the Rings, Caesar in Planet of the Apes, King Kong in the self-titled film, and Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars.

If he were to take on Lord Voldemort, he would be almost as unrecognizable as he was for these parts, but he’s ready to do what he has if he’s chosen.

In a recent one on one on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, host Josh Horowitz told Serkis he had an “epiphany” that the actor would make a perfect Voldemort. Serkis seemed open to the idea, saying:

“Definitely. I mean, yeah. I’m just waiting for the call. Basically, that’s a cool one. Mind you, Ralph’s got big boots to follow, you know.” He joked that he would even be willing to chop off his nose for the role.

This was just a friendly chat, but I think they stumbled onto a great solution. Serkis certainly has the resume to prove his ability to morph into just about any character thrown his way. But we will just have to wait and see where the studio lands on this one.
