Andy Serkis Says He Would Love to Return to Play Gollum in New THE LORD OF THE RINGS Movies If Asked

Just a few months ago, it was announced that New Line Cinema and Warner Bros Pictures are partnering up Embracer Group AB’s Middle-Earth Enterprises, for a new multi-year deal to develop a series of new The Lord of the Rings movies. Original trilogy director Peter Jackson and his writing team are in talks about potentially being part of the new films, and one character has expressed his desire to return as well.

Andy Serkis is best known for playing Gollum in Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and when asked by THR if he would like to return to his famed part, he said:

“I adore those guys and they are a second family to me. I’ve spent so many years making films with them. I love their sensibility and their take; it’s filmmaking on a different kind of level. You live and breathe it. And so, yes, if some opportunity were to come up, it would be an amazing thing.”

As of right now, we have no idea if the new stories will include the character, but if they do, it would only be right to have Serkis return to the role. No one could play it like he did, and it would be cool to see him back.

A lot of decisions are still needing to be made for this project to come together, so we will keep you posted as information rolls in. What are you hoping to see in these new Lord of the Rings films?
