Ang Lee is in Talks To direct The Clone Assassin Movie GEMINI MAN
Gemini Man was a film project originally set up at Disney way back in 1997. The movie has been in and out of development for years and has never been made because it was considered unfilmable for years because of the VFX work that it needed to get made. The technology to make it just didn't really exist until now.
Life of Pi and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon director Ang Lee is now in talks to helm the film for Skydance Media. This seems like it could be a great project for him to work on.
According to THR, the story centers on "an aging assassin who tried to get out of the business but finds himself in the ultimate battle: fighting his own clone who is 25 years younger than him and at the peak of his abilities."
That sounds like an interesting concept! With the filmmaking technology that we have today, this is a movie that can now actually be pulled off. We've seen time and time again older actors being de-aged for certain films and that tech is only getting better and better.
Over the years, some of the talent that has been attached to the project include directors Tony Scott, Curtis Hanson, and even Mel Gibson was looking to star in it at one point.
Jerry Bruckheimer is producing the film, and according to the report Skydance is "ready to go all in, believing the time is right and the technology is here. And it believes that Lee, who has pushed the envelope with Life of Pi and experimented with cameras with the more recent drama Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, is the right man to pull it off."
Hopefully, Lee decides to take it on. I'd love to see what he does with it.
