Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Let Loose in BY THE SEA Featurette
As Star Wars: The Force Awakens dominates discussion all morning thanks to last night's new trailer, allow us to briefly turn our attention to one of the year's biggest theatrical paradoxes: what's sure to be one of the smallest movies with two of the world's biggest movie stars.
Angelia Jolie wrote, directed, and stars in By the Sea opposite her husband Brad Pitt, and they play a couple whose marriage is on the rocks in what appears to be a drama with a lot of forlorn looks and pent-up resentments. The first trailer implies that eventually, those conflicts come to a head, but this new featurette (via The Playlist) concentrates more on Pitt and Jolie's experiences making the movie than anything else. The film premieres at this year's AFI Film Fest next month before opening on November 13th.
By the Sea follows an American writer named Roland (Pitt) and his wife, Vanessa (Jolie Pitt), who arrive in a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in 1970s France, their marriage in apparent crisis. As they spend time with fellow travelers, including young newlyweds Lea (Laurent) and François (Poupaud) and village locals Michel (Arestrup) and Patrice (Bohringer), the couple begins to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives.
