Angelina Jolie Talks About Why We Haven't Seen Her in Any Film Roles Since ETERNALS
Academy Award-winning actress Angelina Jolie (Girl, Interrupted, Maleficent) starred in Marvel’s 2021 box-office flop Eternals, and we haven’t heard much from her since. While she was in back to back projects for many years, Jolie has taken a slowed-down approach to her work as an actress, and has launched another career creating a clothing line that she has been able to develop alongside her kids.
In a recent interview with Vogue, Jolie talked about what she’s been up to, and what her work looks like these days, saying, “I’m still understanding who I am at 48. I guess I’m in transition as a person. I feel a bit down these days. I don’t feel like I’ve been myself for a decade, in a way, which I don’t want to get into."
She added that she started doing less film work “seven years ago, only taking jobs that didn’t require long shoots. We had a lot of healing to do. We’re still finding our footing.” Her clothing line, Atelier Jolie, is part of this process. “I think part of this has also been therapeutic for me—to work in a creative space with people you trust and to rediscover yourself,” she says. “I’m hoping to change many aspects of my life. And this is the forward-facing one.”
It makes sense that as a single mom she would try to slow down and work on more projects that accommodate her life and schedule. She will next be credited for returning to voice Tigress in the animated sequel Kung Fu Panda 4, due out in theaters on March 29, 2024. She is also in pre-production on the film Maria, in which she will play opera singer Maria Callas; as well as the sequel Maleficent 3; and the adapted film Every Note Played, in which she will star opposite Christoph Waltz.
