Anne Hathaway Confirms She Is Returning for PRINCESS DIARIES 3: MIRACLES HAPPEN
Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway has confirmed that she is returning to one of her first film franchises to reprise the role of Queen Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi, aka Mia, in the long-awaited threequel, Princess Diaries 3: Miracles Happen with Disney and Somewhere Pictures.
In a social media post, Hathaway released a video of three with cuts, first of her younger self as Mia Thermopolis, then of Julie Andrews as Queen Clarisse Renaldi both saying, “Shut up!”, then she held up her three fingers and made the exclamation herself, and blew a kiss to the camera, while cutting away to the article that confirmed she and director Adele Lim (Raya and the Last Dragon, Joy Ride) were both on board.
Debra Martin Chase will produce Princess Diaries 3. EPs include Lim’s producing partner Naia Cucukov and Melissa Stack. Flora Greeson is writing the screenplay.
The first Princess Diaries film arrived in 2001, and Hathaway’s role as teen Mia Thermopolis, who learns she is a princess, was a breakthrough for her career. The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement came along in 2004 just after Hathaway appeared in the film adaptation of Ella Enchanted the same year.
No other cast members have been confirmed to return, but the film wouldn’t be complete without Julie Andrews, so we are hoping for her confirmation soon.
