Anne Rice's VAMPIRE CHRONICLES Series in Development at Paramount TV
I'm sure you all remember Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt's feature film adaptation of Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire! It was good, right? Well, what if you took away the phenomenal all-star cast and the film level production and made it into a TV series? Well... damn.
That's exactly what Paramount Television is planning on doing with the production company Anonymous Content. They have optioned the rights to Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles book series and they've hired Christopher Rice, Anne Rice's Son, to write the upcoming TV series, as well as serve as an executive producer with his mother.
According to Variety, "the series mainly revolves around the character Lestat, from his vampiric origins to various adventures around the world." Amy Powell, president of Paramount TV had this to say in a statement:
“It is undeniable that Anne Rice has created the paradigm against which all vampire stories are measured. The rich and vast world she has created with ‘The Vampire Chronicles’ is unmatched and sophisticated with ’90s gothic undertones that will be perfectly suited to captivate audiences. The series is full of compelling characters led by Lestat, arguably one of the greatest original characters, literary or otherwise. We are thrilled to collaborate with Anne, Christopher, and the team at Anonymous Content on this epic series.”
Rice added:
“I’m thrilled beyond words to be working with Paramount TV and Anonymous Content — known for extraordinary cutting edge series such as ‘True Detective,’ ‘Quarry,’ and ‘The Knick,’ In this unique golden age of television, I couldn’t ask for a finer or more passionate team to help bring my beloved vampire hero, Lestat, alive in a series of the highest quality. This is a dream come true, both for me and for Christopher and for the fans who have been asking to see the Brat Prince in this medium for years.”
It's just... why do we need another Vampire TV series? I swear, it seems like there have been a ton of these type of series in the past 5 years. But then again, I love the idea of more Superhero TV series, so I can't really complain. As more information is released, we will let you know. Personally, I just think I'm vampired out. The last great vampire series I watched was Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and part of me wants it to stay that way... unless of course, they remade Buffy with a new cast and new Buffy for a new generation, which... they would never... do. Right? RIGHT?
