Another Alternate Ending for THE PREDATOR Would Have Featured Newt From ALIENS
Earlier this week we learned that there was an alternate ending for The Predator that would have introduced Ellen Ripley from the Alien franchise. If you thought that was interesting, then you’ll probably be interested in learning that a grown up version of Newt, a.k.a. Rebecca Johnson, from James Cameron’s Aliens was a part of another alternate ending that was shot for Shane Black’s film.
Yuri Everson, who worked on The Predator, recently shared a couple of new photos of the alternate ending involving Newt, and they came with the following statement:
"We shot 3 different endings for The Predator, all variations of a 'Predator Killer.' This unused ending was Predator Killer Newt aka Rebecca Jordan wearing the breather mask we created for the film. You can see her name there on the monitors. Breanna Watkins played Newt. The moving 'fingers' and 'tail' on the mask were deemed too facehugger-like on the day and were cut and removed by someone."
Fox was obviously heavily considering bringing these two classic sci-fi franchises together again in a way that would connect Aliens. I can’t help be wonder where the studio was thinking of taking the franchises if they actually pulled the trigger on one of these alternate endings.
My question is, if they wanted to bring back Ripley and Newt, why in the hell didn’t they just let Neil Blomkamp make his Alien 5 movie!? He had a great concept that would have brought back both characters along with Cpl. Dwayne Hicks!
