Another Amusing Trailer For Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig's Shrinking Comedy DOWNSIZING
We've got another trailer here for you to watch for director Alexander Payne's new comedy Downsizing. I've always enjoyed the films that Payne has made such as Sideways, Election and The Descendants, but this one is so different from anything that he's done before as it deals with people shrinking themselves down to five-inch-tall people so that they can live a better life. It's so odd, and that's why I love what I'm seeing!
The movie stars Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig as a couple who decide to undergo the shrinking process. Here's the synopsis with some additional details:
Downsizing imagines what might happen if, as a solution to over-population, Norwegian scientists discover how to shrink humans to five inches tall and propose a 200-year global transition from big to small. People soon realize how much further money goes in a miniaturized world, and with the promise of a better life, everyman Paul Safranek (Matt Damon) and wife Audrey (Kristen Wiig) decide to abandon their stressed lives in Omaha in order to get small and move to a new downsized community — a choice that triggers life-changing adventures.
When previously talking about the film, the director compares his film to something you might see in Black Mirror, but without the sci-fi feeling:
"The basic premise is a very delicious one, and it’s the premise that saw Jim and me through the many years to get this made… it’s very much like the previous movie Jim and I did, in that it takes something inherently absurd and ridiculous, but tells it with utter earnestness… kind of like what you see in Black Mirror. Some episodes of Black Mirror take a premise and run with it, but I’m not interested in the science fiction feeling; I always aspire to make a Hal Ashby or a Robert Altman movie, and the plot has a certain episodic structure."
The film has a great cast that also includes Kristen Wiig, Christoph Waltz, Laura Dern, Alec Baldwin, Jason Sudeikis, Neil Patrick Harris, and Udo Kier.
Downsizing opens in theaters on December 22nd.
