ANT-MAN Star David Dastmalchian Wants to Sink His Teeth Into Playing Morbius in the MCU
David Dastmalchian has made a name for himself playing quirky, complex characters across the superhero multiverse, but now he’s got his eye on something darker.
The Ant-Man and The Suicide Squad actor recently shared that he’s eager to step into Marvel’s horror territory, specifically as Morbius, the Living Vampire.
Speaking with The Direct, Dastmalchian opened up about his dream Marvel role, saying:
“I have always wanted to take a crack at Morbius, the living vampire.”
Fans know Dastmalchian as Kurt in Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp, and more recently as the gooey and lovable Veb in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
But, when it comes to what he wants next, the actor is craving something with a bit more bite. “I would love the opportunity to play Dr. Michael Morbius. Oh, my God. There’s so many great characters in the MCU, and I’ve always been a fan of the horror and the weirder characters.”
His fascination doesn’t stop with Morbius. Dastmalchian revealed that he’s drawn to Marvel’s entire supernatural lineup, adding:
“I love the idea of the Marvel version of Dracula, which I always loved. I thought that any of the monster stuff, the Midnight Suns, the stuff that was part of the old Defenders, would be cool.”
That passion lines up perfectly with Marvel Studios’ increasing interest in exploring the spookier side of its universe. Recent projects like Werewolf by Night, Moon Knight, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have embraced supernatural storytelling, proving there’s plenty of room for monsters, vampires, and all things macabre in the MCU.
Sony’s Morbius (2022), starring Jared Leto, didn’t quite hit the mark with fans, but the character’s absence from official MCU continuity leaves the door wide open for a fresh take, and Dastmalchian could be just the guy to give it a new life.
I think he would be great in the role! Outside of Marvel, Dastmalchian has appeared in The Suicide Squad, Dune: Part One, Oppenheimer, Late Night with the Devil,The Boogeyman, and Boston Strangler.
His love for the strange and supernatural has always defined his work, and his desire to bring that energy into the MCU feels like a natural evolution.
If Dastmalchian ever does get his chance to become Marvel’s next creature of the night, it’s safe to say fans would be excited to see it.
