Anthony Bourdain Biopic in the Works with THE HOLDOVERS Star Dominic Sessa to Star
A24 is in negotiations to acquire the film package for a biopic that will focus on the late Anthony Bourdain. It was also reported that The Holdovers’ Dominic Sessa is attached to star in the film.
The movie will be titled Tony, and it will be directed by Matt Johnson (Blackberry) and produced by Tim and Trevor White of the Oscar-nominated production company Star Thrower Entertainment, along with Matt Miller. They previously produced King Richard.
Lou Howe and Todd Bartels wrote the script for the film, but there are no details on the sections of Bourdain’s life that the project will focus on. Sessa is 21 years old and can easily be aged up if needed. So there’s a whole decade in Bourdain’s life that the film could explore.
Anthony Bourdain was a renowned American chef, author, and television personality who left an indelible mark on the culinary world and beyond.
Born on June 25, 1956, in New York City, Bourdain developed a passion for food early in life, eventually attending the Culinary Institute of America. He rose to prominence with his 2000 book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly, a candid and often gritty look at the restaurant industry.
This book not only showcased his sharp wit and storytelling ability but also propelled him into the spotlight as a voice for the often unseen side of professional kitchens.
Bourdain's fame continued to grow with his foray into television, where he hosted several successful shows that combined his love of food, travel, and culture.
His most notable series, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and Parts Unknown, allowed viewers to experience global cuisine and cultures through his unique lens.
Bourdain was known for his fearless exploration of both celebrated and overlooked culinary traditions, as well as his ability to connect deeply with the people he met, whether they were renowned chefs or local cooks.
His approach was characterized by a deep respect for different cultures and an insatiable curiosity about the world.
Tragically, Anthony Bourdain's life ended prematurely when he died by suicide on June 8, 2018, in Kaysersberg, France, while filming an episode of Parts Unknown.
His death was a shock to his fans and the culinary and entertainment communities, with many mourning the loss of a man who had brought so much of the world into their homes.
Bourdain's legacy endures through his writings, television work, and the profound impact he had on how people view food and travel as gateways to understanding other cultures.
I’m curious to see how this film project comes together, but I like the talent who is involved with it, so it could be a solid production.
