Anthony Mackie Found Out About CAPTAIN AMERICA 4 From a Fan at the Grocery Store
Anthony Mackie has officially become the new Captain America, after the finale episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which saw Mackie’s Sam Wilson stepping into the role in his new suit, and with his monologue about justice in the modern world. It got fans pumped for the future of the character, especially since Marvel announced on the same day that we are getting a Captain America 4.
The sequel is being written by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier creator Malcom Spellman, and another of the show’s writers, Dalan Musson.
But it turns out that Marvel let the news break before notifying arguably the most important player, Mackie himself. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mackie explained where he found out about the upcoming film:
“I literally found out yesterday in a grocery store. The checkout guy named Dwayne, a cool cat, he’s like, ‘Yo, man. Is this real?!” [holds up a cellphone] “I’m like, ‘I haven’t heard anything.’ That’s what I love about working for Marvel. They call you, they’re like, ‘Come to L.A. We wanna tell you what’s going on.’ So, I’m excited to see what happens, but I haven’t heard anything.”
It seems like he would have been the first to know! And if he doesn’t know about that, you can be pretty certain that he also doesn’t know about the possibility of a second season of the show. But when asked, he said that working with Sebastian Stan and the team behind the show would be “fun as hell” to do again. He also joked that being the new face of the character hasn’t sunk in just yet. He added:
“I don’t know what I expected, but it’s definitely not what I thought it would be,” he says of the finale reveal last Friday. “I guess I foresaw something that was much more celebratory than just being ‘Anthony with a new Twitter account.'”
I’m sure there will be no hang-ups getting Mackie back in the role on the big or small screen, but it’s about time Marvel makes it official!
