Antoine Fuqua Is Back in Talks to Direct The SCARFACE Reimagining

After leaving the Scarface project just over a year ago to direct the sequel to The EqualizerAntoine Fuqua appears to be coming back to direct Universal’s re-imagining of the classic film. Variety reports that discussions are underway for Fuqua to direct, but no official offer is on the table yet.

After Fuqua left the project the studio turned to David Ayer (Suicide Squad and Bright) to helm the project, but the director ended up leaving the movie due to scheduling conflicts, which opened up the door for Fuqua’s return. The latest script is written by Ayer, Jonathan Herman, and even Joel Coen and Ethan Coen.

Rogue One star Diego Luna is said to be attached to star in the movie, which is described as a reimagining of the core immigrant story told in both the 1932 and 1983 films. The new film will be set in Los Angeles and will focus on a Mexican immigrant.

Universal originally set the film for release this August, but it has recently taken it off the calendar.
