Antoine Fuqua Wants to Make a Sequel to THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

Director Antoine Fuqua has made some great films over the course of his career with Training Day and the film in The Equalizer franchise. Another film that I enjoyed was his 2016 remake of The Magnificent Seven. Yeah, it wasn’t as good as the original, but it was still a fun movie that I enjoyed.

Denzel Washington starred in the film as Chisolm, a man who assembles a group of outlaws to help him take down a corrupt industrialist's private army. During a recent interview with CB, Fuqua shared that he thinks there’s more to Chisolm's story, and he’d like to expand that story and explore the world more in a sequel. He said:

"I think, Magnificent Seven, I always wanted that character to have more of a story. I wanted, a bigger story, an arc with that character, you know? Very cool guy."

I actually wouldn’t mind that! If Fuqua has more of a story to tell with this character, and it would be cool for him to get the opportunity to tell it! But, that may not happen because there’s a series adaptation currently in development at Amazon Studios.

The series project is being developed by True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto, and it’s one of the many MGM properties that Amazon is high on reviving. Pizzolatto actually worked on the script for the 2016 film, but I imagine that this series will be a complete reboot and won’t continue the film’s story.

Since the 1960 film was released there have been three sequels; a TV show that ran from 1998 to 2000; and the 2016 big-screen remake.
