Anya Taylor-Joy Re-Teaming with THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT Creator For a "Nasty, Wonderful, Thriller" LAUGHTER IN THE DARK
The Queen’s Gambit is an incredible series, one of my favorites of the year. That show, which is about a female chess prodigy, just blew me away with its incredible story and from what I’ve seen, it’s had that effect on a lot of people.
Well, the star of the series Anya Taylor-Joy and its creator Scott Frank are going to be teaming up for a new film project. That project is an adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel Laughter in the Dark.
While talking to the Watch podcast, he described the film as “a valentine to movies. I’m going to do it as a film noir and a movie within a movie, and it’s a really nasty, wonderful, thriller.”
The story follows Albert Albinus, “a respectable, middle-aged man and aspiring filmmaker, who abandons his wife for a lover half his age: Margot, who wants to become a movie star herself. When Albinus introduces her to Rex, an American movie producer, disaster ensues. What emerges is an elegantly sardonic and irresistibly ironic novel of desire, deceit, and deception, a curious romance set in the film world of Berlin in the 1930s.”
That definitely seems like the type of project that these two talents are perfect for. I’m up for watching anything that they create together!
Some of Taylor-Joy’s upcoming projects include Edgar Wright’s psychological horror movie Last Night in Soho, director Robert Eggers’ for Viking revenge movie The Northman, and it was recently announced that she’d been cast as the title character in the Mad Max: Fury Road spinoff film Furiosa.
