AOL Instant Messenger Is Finally Laid To Rest
After 20 years on the internet, AIM is saying farewell. Started in 1997, AOL's built-in chat application was a big part of people's online web experience, although it would become obsolete as cell phones and texting became more widespread and other websites like Facebook would create their own chat.
The messaging service (which I'm honestly surprised to hear was still around) was laid to rest a few hours ago, and with it, a piece of pop culture that only those who grew up with it truly understand. Anyone else remember their away message or their username?
All good things come to an end. On Dec 15, we'll bid farewell to AIM. Thank you to all our users! #AIMemories https://t.co/b6cjR2tSuU pic.twitter.com/V09Fl7EPMx
