Apparently The Upcoming HELLBOY Reboot Has a Poor First Test Screening
I’ve actually been pretty excited about seeing director Neil Marshall’s Hellboy reboot with David Harbour in the role of the hellish hero. I like everything that I’ve seen and heard about it so far, but apparently the first test screening for the film didn’t go too well.
The first reactions are being reported on and it’s not promising. The news comes from DanielRPK who heard from some audience members that were in attendance at the test screening for the film. He says that the reactions have been “pretty bad.”
The reactions from test screenings for Hellboy so far are...pretty bad. Which is a shame, I was really looking forward to it. pic.twitter.com/xMQCfJ0aSa

His report was then backed up by another reporter named Sylar Shuler, who said:
Daniel heard right, I’ve also heard bad things about this film... Harbour is apparently pretty decent though. https://t.co/nBUPaaKreG

Another guy by the name of KC Walsh adds:
Harbor tries his best but the dialogue, villain and story seem to be lacking https://t.co/lWUXufBVHq

Now, just because this first test screening didn’t go over well doesn’t make me any less excited. The whole reason for these test screenings is to see what does and doesn’t work with the audiences so that the filmmakers can fix it with reshoots.
It really would really be a shame and a disappointment if this Hellboy reboot ended up being bad. Hellboy creator Mike Mignola helped write the film’s script and has even praised Harbour’s version of the character.
The movie also stars Ian McShane as Professor Broom, Milla Jovovich as the Nimue the Blood Queen, Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, Daniel Dae Kim as Ben Daimio, and Penelope Mitchell as Ganeida, a witch who has decided that the Blood Queen's wrath has gone on for too long.
The film is about Hellboy going to England, where he must defeat Nimue, Merlin’s consort and the Blood Queen. But their battle will bring about the end of the world, a fate he desperately tries to turn away.
In case you missed it, you can read a description for the trailer that was shown at NYCC here. That trailer has yet to be released for the rest of us.
The movie will hit theaters on April 12th, 2019. Are these reviews getting you down and worried?
