Apple CEO Confirms F1 Sequel Talks Are Happening - "We Can't Wait to Bring it to The Surface"

After the massive success of Joseph Kosinski’s Formula One drama F1, Apple isn’t wasting time fueling sequel speculation. During a recent chat with Variety at the Emmys, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the studio is already exploring what comes next for the high-octane story.

"It's definitely something that's being talked about. It's been such a huge summer blockbuster for us. We're so proud of it. The talent involved are such next level, and Brad did such a wonderful job acting in it. We're super proud of it, and we can't wait to bring it to the surface."

F1 stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former Formula One driver forced into early retirement after a devastating crash in the 1990s. Years later, he’s pulled back into the sport when his longtime friend and team owner Ruben convinces him to mentor rising rookie Joshua “Noah” Pearce, played by Damson Idris, for the Apex Grand Prix team.

Kosinski, who previously delivered Top Gun: Maverick, directed from a script by Ehren Kruger. Many wondered if the filmmaker could top his previous blockbuster, but F1 silenced any doubt. The film brought in an impressive $623.4 million worldwide against a $300 million budget and currently holds an 82% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Kosinski has already tossed out a fun idea for where a sequel could go. “I just kind of threw out this idea that Sonny Hayes comes back to the world of F1 and bumps into his old rival, Cole Trickle, who raced NASCAR in the ‘90s, and they cross paths again,” he told Collider.

The film premiered in theaters on June 27 before making its way to Apple TV Plus, where its popularity has only grown. With the studio and talent on board, it looks like fans won’t have to wait long before Sonny Hayes gets back behind the wheel.
