Apple TV+ Gives the Tom Hanks WWII Battleship Movie GREYHOUND a July Release Date

Apple TV+ has announced that Tom Hanks’ World War II battleship action drama Greyhound will be released on July 10th. The movie stars Hanks, who also wrote the script. The film is based on C.S. Foreste’s novel The Good Shepherd.

The movie was originally supposed to be released in theaters on May 19th, but that obviously didn’t happen. While I would have liked the see the movie on the big screen, I guess I’ll have to settle with watching it at home. I know some people have enjoyed watching movies at home, but not me. There are way too many distractions.

Greyhound follows a Navy officer who finally gets to command a destroyer, but has to get on top of his personal doubts and demons as he does so. Here’s the synopsis:

In the early days of WWII, an international convoy of 37 Allied ships, led by captain Ernest Krause (Hanks) in his first command of a U.S. destroyer, crosses the treacherous North Atlantic while hotly pursued by wolf packs of Nazi U-boats.

The movie also stars Stephen Graham (Snatch, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Rocketman), Rob Morgan (Mudbound, Stranger Things, Daredevil), and Elisabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas, The Boys, Death Wish).

The film is directed by Aaron Schneider (Two Soldiers, Get Low) and is produced by Gary Goetzman (Olive Kitteridge, Game Change, The Pacific). Here’s the trailer for the film.

The only thing more dangerous than the front lines was the fight to get there. Screenplay by Tom Hanks inspired by actual events, Greyhound is coming soon to...
